Former Ocean Colour Scene guitarist to headline with special acoustic set
The hugely popular Family Fest charity event is back for 2016 and this time will be even bigger and better, bringing an entire weekend of live music, entertainment and activities to the West Midlands.
The inaugural one-day Family Fest at Buzzard’s Valley Vineyard in Drayton Bassett last summer was such a success that it has now been extended to a two-day event, incorporating a family-friendly music festival on Saturday, August 20, ahead of wall-to-wall fun on Sunday, August 21.
Last year’s event saw £7,500 being shared between Midlands Air Ambulance, Job Club and Our Place Community Hub and all proceeds will again be donated to the three charities.
Some great acts have been lined up for the Saturday ‘BuzzStock’, including a special acoustic set by former Ocean Colour Scene guitarist Andy Bennett at 4pm, followed by popular local bands Quad Rox, The Interpreters and The Mighty Boing.
This will be alongside food, drink, inflatables for young and old, face painting and other child-friendly entertainment to complement a relaxed, summer picnic atmosphere.
Sunday’s event will be similar to last year’s Family Fest with live music from eight more local performers and bands, bouncy castles, bubble football, craft stalls, dance groups, pets corner, owls, scout groups, local interest groups, picnic area, Prosecco tent, plus many more games and activities.
This year will also include a dog show, raft building by Scout groups, historical re-enactments and a much wider variety of food.
Family Fest ft BuzzStock is again being organised by members of The Breakfast Club networking group who meet at Buzzards Valley Vineyard on the first Wednesday of every month. It initially started as an idea for a family picnic that soon snowballed into the mammoth charity fundraising extravaganza.
Last year’s event was full to capacity with 1,500 on site and many more having to be turned away at the gate. As a result, people are advised to get their tickets booked well in advance to avoid disappointment.
Although the event has doubled in size this year with bags more fun and entertainment on offer, organisers have worked hard to ensure it remains affordable for local families.
Breakfast Club member and keen Tamworth fundraiser, Anthony Levelle, of Sutton Coldfield-based Search UK Ltd, said: “Our main priority is that this is a completely not-for-profit event with all proceeds going to charity, yet is still affordable for families. We want people to come and have a great weekend without spending a fortune. A ticket for the entire weekend costs just £17.50 for adults and all children under the age of 14 get in free of charge.
“We have also worked hard with the vendors and various attractions that will be on site to make sure they keep prices low.
“Last year’s event surpassed all our expectations and we decided to go even bigger this year. Any teething problems have been ironed out and we hope people come along for a great weekend of high quality entertainment.
“Securing Andy Bennett for the headline act at the BuzzStock element of the festival was a major coup and his acoustic set will be in keeping with the relaxed, chilled out summer evening atmosphere we are going for. Tickets are limited to 2,000 for Saturday and 1,500 for Sunday and we advise booking early as we had to turn people away last year.
“We are also delighted to have secured one of the Midlands’ leading independent estate and lettings agents, John Shepherd, as our main sponsor this year. It should make for a great weekend and, primarily, raise even more money for three great local causes.”
