A young Tamworth businessman who started his own company at the age of 17 is following in the footsteps of his Dragons’ Den mentor after launching another business venture which he hopes will be just as successful as the first.

In true entrepreneurial spirit, 22-year-old Kyle Raffo spotted an opportunity when he was approached by three personal trainers looking for an accomplished business partner to join them in their dream of opening a sleek and stylish gym.

Officially launched last month, The Fitness Junction, based in Fazeley near Tamworth, is a state-of-the-art new fitness centre offering personal training, daily classes and cutting edge equipment.

But The Fitness Junction is not your average gym – personal trainers Simon Mcneilly, Andy Dolan and Keith Clarke wanted to provide a unique, alternative and sustainable way for people of all ages and abilities to achieve their fitness goals. As such, The Fitness Junction focuses on functional training based on compound exercises – with not a treadmill in site.

It was a vision that was immediately shared by Kyle. The new business partners pooled their resources to transform an empty and unloved former mill building into the new high-tech fitness facility.

Kyle said: “I’m always on the lookout for new business opportunities and I was immediately excited by this prospect. I am a firm believer in health and fitness and I immediately understood the vision behind The Fitness Junction.

“This is not your average gym, but a new and exciting way of helping people get fit and achieve their goals. The facility looks amazing and has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I’m looking forward to seeing lots of people making positive and sustainable changes in their lives.”

Since its tentative opening a few months ago, and official launch in April, The Fitness Junction has hit the ground running with more than 200 members already signed up.

But this is hardly surprising as Kyle always has his sights set firmly on success – and he has certainly learned from the best. As a teenager the award-winning entrepreneur studied at the Solihull-based Peter Jones Enterprise Academy, securing one of only 23 coveted places on the course. He spent a year working alongside the Dragons’ Den tycoon’s team and other industry experts, gaining valuable work experience and business contacts.

Kyle was keen to put his new-found knowledge into practice and, by the age of 17, had started his own company, Expand Digital. Since then, Expand Digital has grown from a social media enterprise run from the family home, to a full-scale digital media, print and design company with offices, printing facilities and 12 members of staff at a unit on the Tame Valley Industrial Estate in Tamworth.

For Kyle, the hope is that The Fitness Junction follows the same path as Expand Digital, which is on track to turn over £1million for the first time this year.

As The Fitness Junction grows, it will begin to offer corporate memberships and team-building events for businesses.

Prospective members are invited to drop in to The Fitness Junction at Tolsons Mill on Saturday, May 14.  Please contact The Fitness Junction on 01827 213344 for more information.
